  • Statement of Faith | Church of Scotland Reformed Presbyterian

Church of Scotland Reformed Christ Faith state of orthodox beliefs Statement of Faith This creedal statement was approved by the General Assembly of 1992. You can find this statement in the Church's worship book, Common Order . It is used alongside the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, ancient creeds of the church: We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is love. We praise God the Father: Who created the universe and keeps it in being. He has made us his sons and daughters to share his joy, Living together in justice and peace, Caring for his world and for each other. We proclaim Jesus Christ, God the Son: Born of Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit, He became one of us, sharing our life and our death. He made known God's compassion and mercy Giving hope and declaring forgiveness of sin, offering healing and wholeness to all. By his death on the cross and by his resurrection He has triumphed over evil. Jesus is Lord of life and of all creation. We trust God the Holy Spirit: Who unites us to Christ and gives life to the Church, Who brings us to repentance and assures us of forgiveness. The Spirit guides us in our; understanding of the Bible, Renews us in the sacraments And calls us to serve God in the world. We rejoice in the gift of eternal life: We have sure and certain hope of resurrection through Christ, and we look for his coming again to judge the world. Then all things wilI be made new. And creation will rejoice in worshipping the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Spirit, one God, blessed for ever. Amen.

This Week's Lisbon Letter "Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel." Jeremiah 18:2-6 Dear Friends, Our son took an interesting field trip with his school around Lisbon this past week. They met with different artists in the area and walked the city admiring the variety of artistic expressions. One of these artist's works had also caught my, and many others, attention - Artur Bordalo. Mr. Bordalo has made roughly 200 large animal sculptures using over 60 tons of recycled material and his works can be found tucked into many areas around Lisbon. When standing up close to these grand pieces of art you sometimes get lost in the rubbish hanging above your head and just find yourself wondering, "what happened to that wall?" But once you take several steps back only then does the tangled mess become something beautiful. The same is true in our lives. God does not let anything go to waste! Sometimes the sins of our past feel like a big pile of unusable rubbish that might make us feel unlovely, or for some, unlovable. But I want you to remember that in the hands of our Creator, God promises to make all things beautiful in its time. While this verse in Jeremiah was written to the children of Israel by the prophet Jeremiah concerning Israel's sin and restoration, fellow believers can hold on to this same truth because we serve the same God. As sinners in a fallen world on this side of heaven, we are all marred. But just like Mr. Bordalo has learned to make beauty from rubbish, we can know that God can, and will, make us into a more beautiful vessel for his purpose. Take hope in remembering this week that you are clay in the Great Artist's hands. Psalm 46:8, "Come and see what the Lord has done, the amazing things he has done on the earth." Love and Blessings, Kevin

  • Statement of Beliefs | The Apostles Creed

We affirm the historic Christian orthodox pilars of faith captured in the Apostle's Creed STATEMENT OF BELIEFS Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into Heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the Holy Catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the Forgiveness of Sins; the Resurrection of the Body; and the Life Everlasting.
