Rev. Alexander Douglas

Alex on graduating from Aberdeen divinity faculty was called to

St. Columba Church in Paisley where he served for five years before becoming minister of Kingcase Church Prestwick. In 1991 was called to Blackhall St Columba church in Edinburgh where he served until his retirement in 2014. He is married to Jill who was a health visitor. Alex and Jill met at the Glasgow Bible College in Glasgow.

 

Today they live in Dalgetty Bay, a short distance from Scotland's capital city. They are blessed with two sons Craig and Grant and have a grandson Adam. During his ministry he exchanged pulpits with ministers in Florida and California. Since his retirement he has been Locum in Morningside United, Reid Memorial and Edinburgh North West Church and served the congregation of St. Andrew's Church Lisbon every summer for a period of three months.

 

Alex and Jill are looking forward to renewing friendships  in St. Andrews and making new ones. Arriving  on the 26th of June Alex and Jill will be with the congregation until the 6th September on that day he conducts morning worship then heads for Sintra to bless Michael and Clara on their recent marriage. Thereafter he returns to Polwarth Church Edinburgh where he has been conducting worship until he left to come to St. Andrews. 

ABOUT US

St Andrew's Church of Scotland Lisbon has worshipped in Portugal since 1866 and remained in the current church sanctuary since 1899.  It is the oldest Presbyterian Church in mainland Portugal.  It has an ecumenical and international congregation.
